Most common issues on this model
- Motor hum and jam
- Overload trip and base reset
- Dishwasher inlet and hose connection
- Sink flange and mounting leak
- Wall switch and power at the unit
The GE GFC720FDS is a continuous-feed disposer in the GFC720 Disposall series, which also includes the GFC720MDS and the GFC720N. The suffix on the label tells us which revision is under your sink.
Our checks follow the layout of the unit. Power comes through the wall switch, the motor drives the grinding plate, and a base reset button protects against overload. If the unit stops, we confirm power, clear any jam and test the reset. The dishwasher inlet and its hose get their own check when the dishwasher drains slowly. For leaks, we find the wet joint before suggesting a seal or mount.
Before ordering, we read the model and build date on the body. The price is in writing first.
Key features
- GE Disposall line
- Continuous-feed disposer
- Sold as a series: GFC720FDS, GFC720MDS and GFC720N
- Dishwasher inlet and base reset
Why are there several GFC720 numbers?
The series is sold in more than one revision, with the FDS, MDS and N endings. The label ending tells us which one you have, which matters for mounts and seals.
Will pressing the reset fix a jam?
No. The reset restarts the motor after it cools, but the jam must be cleared first. We free the plate and test the reset in the same visit.
What if the dishwasher drains slowly?
We check the inlet on the disposer, the hose and the drain line below. A partial blockage in any of them can slow the dishwasher.
