Freezer Repair in Houston
We repair GE upright and chest freezers, standalone or paired with a refrigerator. If food is softening, frost is growing or the motor will not stop, we measure what the freezer is actually doing before choosing a part.
Common freezer problems we fix
In the order we see them across Houston homes.
Food softening or thawing at the edges
Heavy frost on walls or around the lid
Freezer running without cycling off
Door or lid not sealing against the gasket
Water pooling under an upright freezer
Alarm sounding or light flashing
GE freezers come as upright frost-free models and as manual-defrost chest units. Both rely on a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator, but the upright adds fans and an automatic defrost heater and timer, while a chest depends on a tight lid seal and a thermostat.
Houston conditions matter more than most owners expect, since the cabinet works against local heat. A freezer in an unconditioned garage sees summer air well above what the cabinet was designed around, and humidity condenses on gaskets and frames. Storm outages are another common event, after which a compressor may fail to restart cleanly or a board may need attention.
On a visit we check the actual cabinet temperature, the gasket seal, the condenser coil and fan, the defrost cycle where there is one, and the thermostat or control. We explain what can and cannot be concluded from what you saw before we suggest a repair.

How do I know if food is still safe after a warm spell?
Frozen items that keep ice crystals and stay firm are generally treated differently from food that has fully thawed and warmed. We cannot judge your food from here, so check temperatures and use your own judgment.
What causes heavy frost inside a freezer?
Frost points to moisture getting in or to a defrost problem. A worn gasket or a door left ajar admits humid air, while an upright with a failing defrost part builds ice on its own. We check the seal first.
Can a garage freezer be repaired the same way?
Yes. Garage units work in higher heat, so we also look at the coil, ventilation around the cabinet and the power supply, because a warm space makes any cooling problem show up sooner.
