What Yellow light flashing means
On GE chest freezers with Freezer Status Lights, such as the FCM16 and FCM22, the yellow light flashes when the red temperature light is on. If the yellow light is flashing and the red one is off, the chest has experienced a power loss at home. The temperature recovered, but the light stays on so you know it happened. It is a reminder light.
Common causes of Yellow light flashing
- Home power outage or tripped breaker
- Red High Temp light active at the same time
- Cord pulled out and replugged
1. Press the Alarm Reset button to turn the yellow light off. 2. Check whether the red light is also on. 3. If it is, close the lid, keep it shut and wait for the chest to cool. 4. Check frozen food for thawing after an outage.
- If the yellow light returns without any outage, the power feed or the control needs a look.
- We check the outlet, the cord and the status light circuit.
- If the red light is also on, we test the cooling system, with a written price first.

Why is the yellow light flashing on my chest freezer?
Either the red temperature light is on too, or, if red is off, the chest lost power at home and has since recovered. It is both a warning and a record of power loss.
How do I turn it off?
Press the Alarm Reset button. The yellow light goes off. If red stays lit, the temperature is still too high. The red light, if lit, is the one that tells you the freezer is warm.
Does a power loss ruin my food?
Not always. It depends how long the power was out. Check for softened packages and use your judgment. Once recovered, check each package for ice crystals or softness before refreezing.
