What Red High Temp light means
On GE chest freezers with Freezer Status Lights, such as the FCM16 and FCM22, the red High Temp light means the temperature in the freezer is too high, above 23 F (-5 C) for 60 minutes. It goes off by itself once the temperature is back below 20 F (-7 C). You will see it lit, and the food at the top of the chest is the first to soften.
Common causes of Red High Temp light
- Lid not closing fully
- Large amount of warm food added
- Power interruption
- Cooling system not pulling the temperature down
1. Close the lid completely and make sure nothing sticks out of the chest. 2. Check the cord is plugged in and the breaker is on. 3. Keep the lid shut and let the chest recover. 4. Watch whether the red light goes off. 5. If it stays on, move food to another freezer and call us.
- If the red light does not go out after the chest has had time to recover, the freezer is not holding temperature.
- We test the lid seal, the thermostat and the cooling cycle.
- We give a written price before any repair, and the work carries our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Freezer codes
Why is the red High Temp light on my chest freezer?
The temperature has been above 23 F for 60 minutes. The light goes off after the chest drops below 20 F. Check the lid first.
Will it clear by itself?
Yes, once the temperature is below 20 F. If the chest cannot get there, the light stays on and the freezer needs a check. Be patient, because the chest needs time to cool.
Should I move my food?
If the light stays on, yes. Move it to another freezer until the chest is cold again, and discard anything that has thawed badly. Check the lid seal if the light persists.
