A GE range combines a cooktop and an oven in one body, and the two sides rarely fail together. The cooktop may use gas burners with spark ignition or radiant electric elements, while the oven relies on a bake element or gas igniter, a temperature sensor, and a control board that interprets what you set on the panel.

Houston cooks love their ranges, but grease, boil-overs and humidity gather inside. Spilled food clogs burner ports and corrodes element terminals, and a self-clean cycle puts heavy thermal stress on the control and the door latch. Gas ranges also depend on correct supply and connections.

We begin with the surface or oven area you describe, confirm the model, test the part that does the heating, and measure actual temperatures where the problem is about heat. We tell you which sign points where and which does not.

05Range questions
Why does my gas burner click but not light?

Moisture, a dirty burner port, a worn igniter or a misaligned cap can each stop it. We cannot tell which from the sound alone, so we clean and inspect the burner before testing the igniter and the spark module.

Why is my oven not reaching the temperature I set?

The oven temperature sensor, the bake element or igniter, or the control board could be involved. We measure actual oven temperature against the setting, then test each part in order.

Is it safe to keep using a range with a gas smell?

If you smell gas, leave the area, avoid switches and flames, and contact your gas utility first. Once it is cleared by them, we can check the range connections and burners.
