What SALE / Demo mode means

On GE, GE Profile and Café electric and dual-fuel ranges and wall ovens, SALE in the display, or demo behavior, means the control is in Demo Mode. It enters demo when it receives 120 volts instead of 240 volts. Typical reasons are a power cord wired incorrectly, a miswired outlet, or partial power with one leg missing. The oven or cooktop will not heat normally in this state, because the elements need the full 240 volts.

Common causes of SALE / Demo mode

  • Power cord wired incorrectly at the range
  • Miswired outlet or junction box
  • One leg of the power supply missing
  • Breaker or fuse supplying only part of the power
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off both breakers for 30 seconds, then turn them back on. 2. Check the power cord and junction box wiring against the installation instructions. 3. Ask an electrician to check the outlet. 4. If SALE persists, call for service. Do not open panels or work near live wiring yourself.

! Why to stop there
  • If SALE stays after correct power is confirmed, we check the control and the supply to the range as part of a full test.
  • We do not guess at the control board before the wiring is ruled out.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
SALE / Demo modeSALE / Demo mode questions
Why does my range say SALE?

The control is in Demo Mode because it is getting 120 volts instead of 240 volts. Wiring or partial power is the usual reason, not the control itself.

Can I fix it by resetting?

Turn off both breakers for 30 seconds first. If SALE returns, the power cord, outlet or junction box wiring should be checked by a qualified person before the range is used.

Is it dangerous?

Wiring problems can be. Keep the range off, stay out of the panels and wiring, and have the supply checked by an electrician or by us before you use it again.
