What PROBE / LO means

On Café and GE Profile ranges with a probe, such as the CGS980SEMSS, PGS930SELSS and CES700P3MD1, PROBE flashes and the control signals if the probe is inserted but no probe temperature was set and Start was not touched. LO shows until the food's internal temperature reaches about 100°F, because the probe does not register below a certain level. Both are normal and nothing is damaged.

Common causes of PROBE / LO

  • Probe inserted with no target temperature set
  • Start not touched after setting the probe
  • Food still below the probe's reading range
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Set the probe temperature and touch Start. 2. LO is normal at the start of probe cooking. 3. Wait for the food to warm to about 100°F, when the real reading appears. 4. Check that the probe sits in the thickest part of the food.

! Why to stop there
  • If LO stays long after the food is clearly warm, whether the probe or its jack is reading stays unknown
  • We test the probe and the jack, and a normal start-up reading is not a repair
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
PROBE / LOPROBE / LO questions
What does LO mean when using the probe?

The food is below the range the probe can read. LO shows until the food reaches about 100°F, and then the display switches to the real temperature.

Why does PROBE flash on my range?

You inserted the probe but did not set a temperature or touch Start. Set the target temperature and touch Start, and the flashing stops at once.

Is LO a problem?

No. It is normal at the start of probe cooking. It is a concern only if it stays on long after the food is clearly warm, and then we test the probe.
