What 0 means
A 0 on the display of a GE upright frost-free freezer with the older electronic control (Hi Temp and Door Open lights, Colder and Warmer pads, FUF12 through FUF17 era) means the freezer has been turned off with the Warmer pad. Nothing has failed. The cooling is simply off, so the inside will warm up, and you may find soft ice cream or thawing packages if it stayed that way for a while.
Common causes of 0
- Warmer pad pressed until the setting reached 0
- Pad pressed by accident while cleaning or loading
- Someone turned the freezer off on purpose and did not turn it back on
1. Press the Colder pad until the display shows 4 or your preferred setting. 2. Close the door and listen for the freezer to start running. 3. Give it several hours to reach a safe storage temperature. 4. Check frozen food for thawing before you keep it.
- If the display climbs from 0 but the freezer never starts to cool, the cooling system needs testing.
- We check that the control calls for cooling and that the fan and compressor respond.
- A written price comes first, and a freezer that was off for a long time may also need food checked.
Other Freezer codes
Why does my freezer display say 0?
The freezer was turned off with the Warmer pad. Press Colder until the display shows 4 or the setting you want, and it begins cooling again.
Is it broken?
Not if it was turned off by a pad press. It is a setting. If it will not cool after you raise the setting, we test the cooling system.
How long until it is cold again?
Several hours for the interior to reach a safe storage temperature. Keep the door closed in the meantime and check the food. Check the temperature display before you load fresh food.
Still unsure about 0?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
