What F15 means
F15 on 2014-2016 GE GeoSpring hybrid electric water heaters in the GEH50DEEJ, GEH50DFEJ, GEH80DEEJ and GEH80DFEJ series refers to the control's DataFlash memory, the chip that stores its operating program and settings. When the control cannot read or verify that memory, it shows F15. The water heater may behave oddly, ignore settings, or stop using its heat pump. Unlike sensor codes, this one is internal to the electronics, so the owner has little to adjust.
Common causes of F15
- Whether F15 clears after a normal power-off and power-on at the breaker
- The control board's memory and its program state
- Power quality arriving at the unit
- Whether other messages appear alongside F15
1. Note the full display and any other codes shown with F15. 2. Check that the tank is full before any power cycle. 3. Turn the breaker off for a moment and back on only if the tank is full. 4. Avoid pressing buttons repeatedly while the code shows.
- Memory errors usually need the control tested or replaced, and we cannot know that without opening the unit's electronics.
- We check the supply first so a power problem is not mistaken for a bad board.
- A board is ordered only after the supply checks out, and you see the price in writing.
Other Water Heater codes
What does DataFlash mean?
It is the memory area in the control that holds its program and stored settings. F15 says the control had trouble using it, so the electronics need attention rather than the tank or the pipes.
Can a power cycle fix F15?
Sometimes a brief interruption clears a one-time error, but if the code returns right away, the control itself is the likely area. Only cycle power when the tank is full.
Will I lose hot water?
Possibly, because the control may not run its normal sequence. If the water goes cold, tell us during booking so we can plan the right parts.
