Trash Compactor Repair in Houston

We repair GE trash compactors that will not start, stop mid-cycle, jam, or will not open and close. We check the drawer, the ram, the drive and the safety switch.

01What goes wrong

Common trash compactor problems we fix

In the order we see them across Houston homes.

01

Will not start when the drawer is closed

02

Ram stops partway down

03

Drawer jammed or off its track

04

Loud grinding or clunking in the cycle

05

Key switch or controls unresponsive

06

Odor despite a fresh bag

A GE compactor squeezes household trash inside a drawer using a motor-driven ram on a screw or chain, controlled by safety switches that prevent operation with the drawer open. A key switch keeps children from running it, and a tray or bag holds the waste.

These units are tucked into a cabinet run and often forgotten. In Houston, humid kitchens corrode switches and the drawer track, and food residue attracts pests and builds odor in the drawer. Sharp or heavy items overload the drive.

We check the drawer position and track, test the safety and key switches, run the ram through its travel and listen for the drive, and inspect the wiring. You get a written price, and if replacement is the realistic option, we say that rather than propose a series of repairs.

05Trash Compactor questions
Why will my compactor not start?

The drawer switch, the key switch, the motor or a jammed ram could be involved. We confirm the switches first, because those are the quickest and least costly to test.

Is it safe to reach into a jammed compactor?

No. Disconnect power first, and do not reach under the ram. We free the jam safely and check the drive before it is used again, so the problem does not return.

Does a compactor need regular care?

Clearing debris, cleaning the drawer and replacing bags and odor filters helps. A compactor that runs overloaded or with sharp items strains the drive, so keep loads moderate.
