GE GFC300P 1/2 HP Continuous-Feed Disposer Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. Jam and hum without grinding
  2. Leak at the mounting ring or sink flange
  3. Reset button on the base tripping
  4. Drain connection seal
  5. Switch wiring at the wall

The GE GFC300P is a 1/2 hp Disposall continuous-feed garbage disposer. It mounts to a standard kitchen sink flange and runs from a wall switch, and a reset button on its base lets the motor restart after an overload.

Because the reset button protects the motor, a unit that stops and then restarts after pressing it tells us a load or a jam caused the trip. We look for the cause first. A leak from underneath is traced to the mounting ring, the flange seal or the drain connection, which we test with the sink running. If nothing turns and nothing hums, we check the switch and the power at the unit.

Parts depend on the revision, so we read the label on the body before we order. Our price comes in writing first.

GFC300PGFC300P questions
Where is the reset button on a GFC300P?

GE lists a reset button on the base of the body. If the unit stopped, we let it cool, check for a jam, press the button, and then test whether it holds.

Water drips under my sink. Is it the disposer?

It may be, or it may be the drain trap. We run water and watch the flange, mounting ring, drain connection and body to find the exact source before suggesting a repair.

Is a 1/2 hp disposer enough for daily use?

The motor size is part of the model. We do not change it, but we can explain what a jam or overload trip looks like when a unit is stressed by food it cannot grind.
