GFC530H
GE GFC530H 1/2 HP Disposer Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Jam and manual reset overload protector trips
- Drain elbow and drain connector leaks
- Precutter and grinding plate condition
- Wall switch and power
- Slow draining below the unit
The GE GFC530H is a 1/2 hp continuous-feed disposer controlled from a wall switch. GE lists a grinding speed of 2600 RPM, a 2 level precutter, a drain connector and a drain elbow, and a manual reset overload protector.
The overload protector is where we start when the unit stops. A tripped protector means the motor overheated, so we look for what loaded it: a jam, a stuck plate or a heavy debris. Once that is cleared, we confirm the reset holds and the motor runs freely. Leaks are traced to the drain elbow and connector, and slow draining below the unit sends us to the trap and drain line.
We read the model and build date from the label before ordering anything, and we quote in writing before the repair starts.

What is a manual reset overload protector?
GE lists it as a protector that shuts the motor off when it overheats. After the unit cools, you press the reset button, and we find out what caused the trip.
Does the GFC530H plug in?
We confirm during the visit whether it is hardwired or corded. We check the switch and the supply first, and only then test the motor and the overload protector.
Why does my disposer leak from the drain elbow?
The elbow or its gasket may have loosened or hardened. We reseat or replace it and test with water running to confirm that the joint is dry.
