What F41 means
On GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH heat pump water heaters (2025 and newer) with a sensing anode, F41 means the anode rod wire is miswired or the tank is empty. The control watches the anode through a dedicated terminal, and it alarms when it cannot see the anode as expected. It can also show F41 at installation if the tank has not been filled with water yet. Only models with the sensing anode use this code.
Common causes of F41
- Tank not yet filled with water at installation
- Anode wire not on the sensing anode terminal
- Anode wire damaged or loose
- Anode connection circuit at the control
1. Make sure the tank is completely full. Open a hot faucet and let water run steadily before the unit has power. 2. If the heater was just installed, confirm the wire is on the sensing anode terminal. 3. Do not open covers on a powered unit. 4. If the code stays, switch off the breaker and call us.
- A tank that is not full and a wiring problem look the same on the display, so we check the fill first.
- We check the anode connection and wire when the power is safely off.
- We give you a written price before replacing anything.

Why does F41 appear on a new install?
The control alarms if the tank is empty when it powers up. Filling the tank completely before turning on power usually avoids this, and a wiring issue is the next thing we check.
Do all models have a sensing anode?
No. Only some PF and PH models have it, and only those use F41 and F70. Send us the model number and we will tell you which applies.
Is it dangerous to run with F41?
Never run a water heater with an empty tank, because the elements can burn out. Turn the power off at the breaker until the tank is full or we have inspected it.
Still seeing F41?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
