What F5, F6, F7, F8 means

F5, F6, F7 and F8 on the first-generation GE GeoSpring GEH50DEED hybrid water heater, built around 2009 to 2012, each report a failed refrigeration temperature sensor. F5 names T3a at the evaporator inlet, F6 names T3b at the evaporator outlet, F7 names T4 at the compressor outlet, and F8 names T5, the ambient sensor. The control needs all four readings to run the heat pump safely, so a failed one produces its own number on the display.

Common causes of F5, F6, F7, F8

  • Which number is displayed and therefore which sensor
  • Sensor connector, wire and routing
  • Whether the sensor value matches the temperature at its spot
  • The control's input for that sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Write down which of the four numbers appears on the display. 2. Clean the air filter. 3. Clear space around the inlet and outlet. 4. Leave the cabinet closed and call us with the number you saw. Please keep the unit powered until we arrive.

! Why to stop there
  • Failed sensor, damaged wire and control input all give the same code.
  • We measure the sensor and compare it with a reference temperature.
  • Only the sensor that matches your number gets replaced, with the price agreed beforehand.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F5, F6, F7, F8F5, F6, F7, F8 questions
Which sensor is which?

F5 is the evaporator inlet, F6 the evaporator outlet, F7 the compressor outlet and F8 the ambient air sensor. The number you see on the display tells us where to start.

Does a sensor code stop hot water?

The electric elements can still heat the tank, so you often keep hot water. The heat pump may be locked out, so energy costs rise until the sensor circuit is repaired.

Are sensors expensive to replace?

We give you a written price before work, after confirming whether the sensor, its wire or the control input is the problem. Many sensor repairs are modest compared with replacing the unit.
