What 6 means
On the current GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical unit (AZ95E or AZ95H), code 6 is a compressor error. The control ran the compressor for one minute and saw no temperature change in the air, which tells it the cooling or heating is not actually happening. You may hear the unit running without any real effect in the room. The AZ90 and AZ91 generation uses code 6 for a different condition, an overheated outdoor coil.
Common causes of 6
- Compressor running but not producing a temperature change
- Sealed system or refrigerant circuit problem
- Reversing or control circuit sending the wrong command
1. Press and hold MODE, then press AUX, and read the stored entries; -- means none. 2. AUX empties the stored list, and a different key simply backs out of it. 3. Turn the unit off for a few minutes, then run cooling again. 4. Check the front grille and room air path for blockages. 5. Do not open the unit; ask your property manager to arrange service if the room still does not cool.
- No temperature change can mean a compressor or sealed system problem, or sensors misreporting.
- We check airflow and sensor readings first, then the compressor circuit.
- You see the written price before work starts, and the repair has our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Can I keep running the unit with code 6?
We suggest switching it off if the room is not changing temperature. Running a compressor that is not working properly can add wear. A stopped unit also avoids repeated hard starts.
Is this a refrigerant issue?
It may be, but the code alone does not prove it. We confirm the sealed system condition with proper tools before recommending anything. Our visit gives a clear answer on the sealed system.
Is the older AZ90 code 6 the same?
No. On the AZ90 and AZ91 generation code 6 means the outdoor coil is too hot. The AZ95 meaning is no temperature change after one minute.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
