Room Air Conditioner Repair in Houston

We repair GE window and through-wall room air conditioners that blow warm air, drip, freeze up, make noise or will not respond. We check the coils, fans, drain and controls.

A GE room air conditioner holds the refrigeration system, evaporator, condenser, fans and controls in one box that sits in a window or a wall sleeve. Warm air from the room crosses the cold evaporator, and the heat is rejected outdoors by the condenser. A drain pan carries condensate away.

Houston summers run these units almost continuously, with humidity forcing them to remove large amounts of water. Dust and pollen clog the filter and coils, a clogged drain makes water spill, and salt air near the coast corrodes the outdoor coil. Many older homes rely on one for a single bedroom.

We check the filter and coils, airflow through both sides, the fans and capacitors, the drain and the unit’s tilt, and the temperature drop across the coil. We tell you what the sign does and does not show before suggesting a repair.

05Room Air Conditioner questions
Why does my air conditioner blow but not cool?

Dirty coils, a clogged filter, low refrigerant, or a failing compressor or capacitor could be involved. We clean and check airflow first, since that is the most common and the least costly.

Why is water dripping into the room?

The unit may be tilted the wrong way, the drain may be blocked, or the coil may be freezing and then melting. We check the tilt and the drain before looking at the sealed system.

Should I repair or replace a room unit?

That depends on the age, the size of the repair and the cost of a new one. We give a written price so you can compare, and we say if the unit is not worth repairing.
