What 11 means
GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units (AZ95E and AZ95H, the current line) show code 11 as an overheat error. The air entering the unit is too hot for the heater to run safely, so both the heat pump and the resistance heat shut down until the indoor temperature falls. Rooms that are already warm, or a blocked intake, can trigger it. The older AZ90 and AZ91 generation uses code 11 for a wall thermostat connection problem.
Common causes of 11
- Room air at the intake already very warm
- Intake grille blocked or recirculating warm air
- Temperature sensing at the inlet reading high
1. Press and hold MODE, then press AUX, to read the stored entries; -- means none. 2. AUX clears the entries; anything else just exits and keeps what was recorded. 3. Move anything away from the front grille and let the room cool a little. 4. Use fan or cooling mode if the room is warm. 5. Try heating again once the room is comfortable.
- A genuinely hot room and a misreading sensor produce the same code.
- We compare the inlet air temperature with what the unit reports.
- We write the price before any work, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Why would a heater shut down because the air is warm?
Heating a stream of air that is already hot risks overheating. The control stops the heater until the intake air drops to a safer level.
Is code 11 common in hot weather?
It can follow a warm spell or a covered grille. If it appears in a cool room, the sensor reading deserves a closer look. Checking the intake grille is the easiest first step.
Is the older Zoneline code 11 the same?
No. On AZ90 and AZ91, code 11 means a wall thermostat problem and the unit will not operate. Read your model label for the generation.
