What 26 means

On GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units (AZ95E and AZ95H, the current line), code 26 is an air conditioning lockout. The outdoor temperature has fallen below 35°F, so the control locks out compressor cooling until it rises above 40°F. It is protective behavior, not a breakdown. Guests may find the room will not cool during a cold snap. Earlier AZ90 and AZ91 Zoneline units use number 26 differently, if at all.

Common causes of 26

  • Outdoor air below 35°F
  • Normal low-temperature protection
  • Outdoor sensor reading colder than actual conditions
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press and hold MODE, then press AUX, to see the stored entries; -- means none. 2. Use AUX to clear, or any other key to leave the entries as they are. 3. Use heat or fan mode in cold weather instead of cooling. 4. Wait for the outdoor temperature to rise above 40°F. 5. If the code shows on a warm day, tell your property manager.

! Why to stop there
  • A real cold outdoor temperature explains the code, but a sensor reading wrongly would look the same.
  • We compare the outdoor reading with actual conditions.
  • If a repair is needed, we write the price first and cover it with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Why can't I cool the room in winter?

Running the compressor in cold outdoor air can harm it. The control blocks cooling until it warms back above 40°F. Warm weather restores normal cooling automatically.

Is code 26 a failure?

No. It is a protective lockout. The unit will cool again when the weather warms up. Heating and fan modes are unaffected. Waiting for milder weather is all it needs.

What if it is warm outside and code 26 shows?

Then the outdoor sensor may be reading wrong. That is worth reporting so we can check the reading. A wrong reading on a mild day is the real concern.
