What 13 means
On GE Zoneline single-package vertical units of the AZ90/AZ91 generation, code 13 means the high pressure limit switch opened and the compressor was shut down to protect the sealed system. It applies to the 24K-size units only. When it happens a third time within one hour, the control locks the unit out. The four-digit display reads 13 on the left, with the number of times it was logged on the right, and a wrench icon may light.
Common causes of 13
- Condenser airflow restricted by a dirty or blocked outdoor grille
- Outdoor fan not moving air across the coil
- High pressure limit switch and its wiring
- Charge or pressure problems in the sealed system
1. Press ENTER to bring up the stored codes. The left pair of digits is the code and the right pair is the occurrence count. 2. Clear leaves, snow, lint and anything leaning on the outdoor grille so air can move freely. 3. If the display shows 13 again right after a restart, leave the unit off.
- Whether the pressure rose from blocked airflow or from a sealed-system condition stays unknown until we inspect the unit
- We test the outdoor fan, the switch circuit and the airflow path, and quote any sealed-system work in writing first

Why does my AZ91 show 13 followed by a small number?
The left two digits are the code and the right two are a history count. A display reading 1302 would mean the high pressure switch has opened twice so far, and the count keeps rising until it is cleared.
What does a lockout mean on this unit?
When the switch opens a third time within one hour, the control stops the compressor and keeps it off. Clearing the display does not remove the reason the switch opened, so the lockout can return.
Does every Zoneline AZ90 log code 13?
No. This code applies to the 24K-size units only, so a smaller AZ90 or AZ91 will not record it. If yours is a smaller size and shows a different pair of digits, tell us exactly what you see.
