What F16, F17 means
F16 and F17 on GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH series water heaters (2025 and newer) report no hot water at the mixing valve outlet. On models with an electronic mixing valve, the outlet thermal cutoff has tripped. On models without one, a jumper wire is missing. F16 applies only to models with the integrated mixing valve. The result is hot water that never arrives at the faucets even though the tank itself may be warm.
Common causes of F16, F17
- Tripped thermal cutoff at the mixing valve outlet
- Missing or loose jumper wire on non-mixing-valve models
- Mixing valve wiring connection
- Control board input for the outlet circuit
1. Note the code and model number and check whether your unit has a mixing valve on the outlet. 2. Check the breaker is on. 3. Do not open covers or reach for the jumper or wiring. 4. Be careful with any hot water at the tank and call us.
- Which of the two causes applies depends on the model, so we look at the unit first.
- If the cutoff tripped, we also need to learn why it tripped.
- We test before replacing anything and quote the price first.

Does my unit have a mixing valve?
Only some PF and PH models do. If you are not sure, read us the model number from the rating label and we will tell you before we arrive which of the two situations applies.
Why is the tank warm but the faucets cold?
The code describes the outlet circuit, not the tank itself. With the cutoff open or the jumper missing, the control treats the outlet as unavailable, so hot water is held back.
Is it safe to keep using the unit?
We would rather you leave it off and call, since a tripped cutoff means something got too hot or a wiring link is missing. We inspect it and give you a written price.
