What F34 means

On 2025-and-newer GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH heat pump water heaters, F34 reports a failure of the T3a sensor, which reads evaporator inlet temperature. The heat pump uses that reading to watch how the refrigerant is behaving as it enters the evaporator coil. Without a trustworthy reading, the control cannot run the heat pump well and may stop it. You would see slow heating and more use of the electric elements.

Common causes of F34

  • T3a sensor and its connector
  • Sensor lead damage near the evaporator
  • Control board input for T3a
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Note the code and the model number. 2. Check that the air inlet and outlet are clear of boxes, laundry and storage. 3. Do not open the upper housing or touch the evaporator coil. 4. Call us to test the T3a sensor circuit and its plug.

! Why to stop there
  • The sensor sits near the evaporator, so we check the lead and its routing.
  • We confirm the control input before replacing the sensor.
  • Work near the evaporator is priced in writing first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F34F34 questions
What is the evaporator?

It is the coil that absorbs heat from room air for the heat pump to use. T3a reads the temperature at its inlet side, which helps the control watch the refrigerant circuit.

Will I still get hot water?

Usually yes, because the electric elements can take over heating. It costs more to run than the heat pump and recovers more slowly, especially after heavy use.

Does this mean a refrigerant leak?

Not by itself. F34 describes a sensor failure. If our testing suggests anything more, we tell you plainly and give you a written price before touching the sealed system.

Still seeing F34?

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
