What F39 means

On 2025 and newer GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH water heaters, F39 reports a failure of the T7 sensor, which reads the cold inlet temperature at the integrated mixing valve. Only models with that valve show this code. The control needs the cold water reading to decide how much to blend. Without it, delivered water temperature may drift above or below the set point, and you may notice inconsistent temperature at the tap.

Common causes of F39

  • T7 sensor and plug
  • Lead or connector damage at the valve
  • Control board input for T7
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Take a photo of the rating label so the model number and the code are in hand. 2. Check that the cold water supply valve to the water heater is fully open. 3. Test faucet temperature carefully before using it. 4. Call us to replace the required sensor if testing confirms it is bad.

! Why to stop there
  • Low cold supply and a failed sensor can look alike, so we check the supply too.
  • We test before replacing and quote the price first.
  • T6 is checked at the same visit.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F39F39 questions
What does T7 do?

T7 measures the cold water entering the mixing valve, so the valve knows how much cold to add. Without it the blended water temperature can drift away from the setting.

Does a closed supply valve cause F39?

A partly closed valve affects cold water flow, but the code itself points to the sensor reading. We check the supply as well as the sensor so nothing is missed.

Does my model have a mixing valve?

Only some PF and PH models do. Send us the model number from the label and we will tell you whether this code applies before we visit.
