What F77 means
On GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH heat pump water heaters from 2025, F77 reports a stuck key. The control senses that one of the touch pads or buttons on the panel appears to be held down all the time. When that happens, the control cannot trust the panel input and shows F77. You may find that the display does not respond to presses, keeps changing modes by itself, or the heater runs normally but cannot be adjusted.
Common causes of F77
- Panel key or touch pad reading as pressed
- Moisture or debris on the panel
- Panel ribbon or connection
- Control board input
1. Look at the panel and make sure nothing is resting on it. 2. Wipe it gently with a dry cloth, and keep water away from it. 3. Do not press hard on the buttons or pry at the panel. 4. If the code stays, call us to diagnose and repair.
- A key that is physically stuck is different from a panel that is reading wrongly.
- We check the connection behind the panel only when power is safely off.
- We give a written price before replacing the panel or board.
Other Water Heater codes
Can the heater still make hot water?
Often yes. The stuck key affects the panel and not necessarily the heating itself. You may be unable to change settings until the panel is repaired, but the water may stay warm.
Could a damp room cause F77?
Moisture can affect touch panels, so a humid space may contribute. We look at the panel and the room it sits in together, then explain what we found.
Is this repair urgent?
Usually not for safety. A stuck key can keep the unit from accepting setting changes, though, so it is worth scheduling a visit rather than leaving it indefinitely.
