What 10 means
On the newer GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units (AZ95E and AZ95H), code 10 is a heat pump overload. The inside coil has climbed past the 131°F overload threshold, so the control shuts the compressor down while the coil recovers. The room stops getting heat pump warmth for a time. On the older AZ90 and AZ91 generation code 10 is a room freeze protection mode, which is quite different.
Common causes of 10
- Restricted airflow across the inside coil in heating
- Dirty filter or blocked front grille
- Inside fan not moving enough air
1. Hold MODE, press AUX and read the stored entries; -- means none. 2. The AUX key erases the list. Leaving by another key keeps the record. 3. Make sure the front grille is not covered by furniture, bedding or curtains. 4. Let the unit rest in fan mode so the coil can cool. 5. Try heating again after that and report a repeat to your property manager.
- Low airflow is the usual route to a hot coil, but a circuit condition can also be involved.
- We check airflow, the inside fan and coil conditions together.
- You get a written price before we begin, and our work comes with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Does code 10 mean the unit is overheating dangerously?
It is a protective shutdown, so the control is doing its job. Once the coil cools the compressor can run again. Letting the unit rest in fan mode speeds up the recovery.
Will the room still get heat?
Possibly through resistance heating, depending on the model and settings. Heat pump heating pauses until the coil recovers. Electric heat may keep the room warm in the meantime.
How does this differ from AZ90 code 10?
The older AZ90 and AZ91 code 10 relates to freeze protection and shows FRZ. The AZ95 code 10 is a hot-coil overload. Matching the code to the right model generation matters here.
