What 7 means
This page covers GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units (the AZ95E and AZ95H line). Code 7 is a reverse valve error: after one minute the expected temperature change is not happening, so the control concludes the valve did not move between heating and cooling as commanded. Cooling and heat pump operation are off, and only resistance heat with the fan is available. It does not mean the same thing as code 7 on AZ90 and AZ91 units.
Common causes of 7
- Reversing valve not shifting as commanded
- Valve coil or control signal
- Sealed system condition affecting the temperature change
1. Hold MODE, then press AUX, to show stored errors; -- means none. 2. Choose AUX to erase the entries, or leave through any other key to preserve them. 3. Try heat mode, then fan mode, and note what the room does. 4. Clear anything blocking the front grille. 5. Leave the cabinet closed and pass code 7 to your property manager.
- A stuck valve, a weak signal and a sealed system issue can look alike from the display.
- We confirm what the valve is commanded to do and what the air temperature actually does.
- A written price comes first, and a 30-day workmanship warranty covers our work.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Why do I only get resistance heat?
When the control cannot trust the reversing valve, it shuts off the heat pump and cooling and allows only the electric heating elements and fan.
Does a hotel room need immediate attention?
Guests lose cooling and efficient heating, so we would flag it quickly. The unit remains safe to leave in heat or fan mode. Heat mode and fan mode keep the room usable until the valve is checked.
Is code 7 the same on an older Zoneline?
No. On AZ90 and AZ91 it means the indoor coil is freezing. Check the model generation before comparing. Number matching across generations is a common mix-up in managed buildings.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
