What AS means
On GE built-in (through-the-wall) room air conditioners in the AJCQ, AJCM and AKCQ series, AS means a room temperature sensor error. The control cannot read the room temperature reliably, so cooling may run poorly or stop. Full model numbers are the AJCQ10ACH, AJCQ08ACH, AJCM10ACH and AKCQ10ACJ. Do not confuse AS with LO or HI, which the display shows in Fan only mode and which are normal.
Common causes of AS
- Room temperature sensor reading outside its normal range
- Sensor connection at the control
- Control reading the sensor wrongly
1. Unplug the unit, then plug it back in. 2. If AS does not return, carry on as normal. 3. If the error repeats, leave the unit off and call for service. 4. Remember that LO or HI in Fan only mode is normal and not an error.
- Whether the sensor, its connection or the control is to blame stays unknown from the display alone
- We test the sensor against the real room air before quoting a repair

What does AS mean on my GE through-the-wall AC?
It is a room temperature sensor error. The control cannot get a good reading of the room, so it cannot manage cooling the way it should and may stop or run without control.
Is LO or HI the same thing as AS?
No. In Fan only mode the display shows LO or HI, and that is normal. AS is a separate message that points specifically to the room temperature sensor.
Will unplugging the AC fix AS?
It may clear a one-time glitch. If AS comes back after you restore power, the sensor circuit needs a technician, since the unit cannot cool accurately without a reliable room reading.
Still seeing AS?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
