What F9 / FC means
On GE, Profile and Café ranges and wall ovens with electronic oven controls, F9 and FC mean a part in the door lock circuit has failed. The lock is the motorized latch that keeps the door shut during self-clean. When the control cannot confirm whether the door is locked or unlocked it displays the code, and the oven may refuse to start a clean cycle or even stop baking.
Common causes of F9 / FC
- Door lock motor or latch switch not reporting its position
- Wiring between the lock and the control
- Control board that drives the lock circuit
- Latch hook out of line with the door
1. Make sure the oven door is fully closed and nothing is blocking the latch. 2. Switch the circuit breaker or fuse off for a minute or two. 3. Restore the power. 4. If the code persists, have it serviced. 5. Do not force the door or try to start a self-clean.
- The lock circuit has a motor, a switch and wiring, and the code does not say which one is involved.
- We test the lock position signal before replacing anything.
- Forcing a locked door can bend the hinge and the latch.

Why does my oven door feel stuck?
If the lock is engaged and the control cannot release it, the door will not open. Let the oven cool, then switch off the breaker for a minute or two. If it remains locked, call us.
Can I still bake with F9 showing?
It depends on the oven. Some will bake with the lock unconfirmed, but self-clean will not run. We recommend having the lock checked rather than relying on workarounds.
Is the lock replaced separately from the control?
Often the lock assembly is a separate part, but the control can be involved. We confirm before ordering and give you a written price. Our repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
