What Filter Status LED red means

On GE and GE Profile refrigerators with the XWFE RFID water filter and a Filter Status LED (side-by-side GSS25, GSE25 and PSE25, and bottom-freezer and French-door GNE, GBE and GFE, 2018 and newer), a red Filter Status LED means the filter has expired, or on bottom-freezer models that it is reaching the expired state. A steady red is a replacement reminder. A flashing red is a different message, covered separately.

Common causes of Filter Status LED red

  • Filter has expired
  • Remaining filter life at 0%
  • New filter not yet detected after a change
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Filter Status to show the remaining life; 0% means replace. 2. Install a new XWFE filter. 3. After the new filter is detected the LED flashes 3 times and then stays off. 4. If it does not, reseat the filter.

! Why to stop there
  • If the LED stays red after a new filter, the refrigerator is not recognizing it.
  • We check the filter seat, the label reader and the connection.
  • You get a written price before any work.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
