GE makes refrigerators in many layouts, from top-freezer units to French door and Café models with built-in water and ice systems. Most share the same basic cooling path: a compressor and condenser coil, an evaporator behind a panel in the freezer, a fan that moves cold air, and a defrost system that keeps frost from blocking it.

In Houston homes, heat and humidity make a refrigerator work harder. Dust on the condenser coil raises running temperatures, door gaskets pick up moisture and mildew, and power surges in storm season can upset the control board. Garage refrigerators face even higher ambient heat.

We start by confirming the model, then measure actual temperatures in both sections, check that the condenser and evaporator fans move air, look at the gasket seal and the defrost cycle, and only then decide whether a part, a board or the sealed system is involved.

05Refrigerator questions
Why is my freezer cold but the refrigerator warm?

Often cold air is not reaching the fresh-food side because of a frozen evaporator, a stuck damper or a failing fan. The sign alone cannot tell which, so we check airflow and defrost before suggesting a part.

Is it worth repairing an older GE refrigerator?

It depends on the problem and the age. Some repairs, like a fan or a defrost part, are modest compared with replacement, while a sealed system failure may not be. We explain the finding and give a written price first.

Should I move food out before you arrive?

If the compartment is warm, keep perishable food in a cooler or another refrigerator. Leave the door shut as much as possible, and tell us what the temperature has been so we know how long it has been off.
