What Water filter installed incorrectly means
On Cafe refrigerators with an LCD screen (the CYE22T and CFE28T era, 2018 and newer, such as the CYE22TP2MS1), the message that the water filter was installed incorrectly or a leak is present means the filter went in backward or is leaking. The screen cannot tell the two apart. Water may be disabled until the filter is correct, so start by checking for a leak.
Common causes of Water filter installed incorrectly
- Filter or bypass plug installed backward
- Leak at the filter or the housing
- Filter not fully seated
1. Check for a leak around the filter. 2. If there is no leak, remove the filter or bypass plug. 3. Rotate it 180 degrees. 4. Reinstall it fully and see whether the message clears. 5. If there is a leak, shut off the supply and call us.
- If the filter is correct and dry and the message returns, the reader or leak sensing is the area to test.
- We check the filter head and the water path.
- A written price comes first.

What does this filter message mean?
The filter was installed backward or a leak is present. Check for water first, because the message covers both. Both causes share one message. Look for water first.
What if there is no leak?
Remove the filter or bypass plug, rotate it 180 degrees and reinstall it. Turn it a half turn, then push it in until it seats.
What if it still shows?
Then the reader or leak sensing needs testing, and we can check the filter head and line. We trace the water path and check the reader if it keeps showing.
