What F38 means
F38 on GE Profile GeoSpring PF and PH series water heaters made in 2025 and later is a T6 sensor failure, the mixing valve outlet temperature sensor. It appears only on models with the integrated mixing valve. T6 tells the control how hot the blended water is as it leaves the valve. If that reading is lost, the valve cannot be controlled accurately. You may see water temperature that swings or does not match the setting.
Common causes of F38
- T6 sensor and connector
- Mixing valve wiring
- Control board input for T6
1. Note the code and confirm the model has a mixing valve on the outlet. 2. Check the temperature at a faucet carefully before using the water. 3. Do not remove the valve cover or touch its wiring. 4. Call us to test and replace the required sensor if it is bad.
- We separate a bad sensor from a bad valve with testing.
- The T7 sensor is checked at the same time.
- A written price comes before the repair.
Other Water Heater codes
What is T6?
It is the temperature sensor at the outlet of the mixing valve. It lets the control hold the delivered water temperature steady while the valve blends hot and cold.
Is F38 linked to F39?
They are neighbors. F38 is the outlet sensor and F39 is the cold inlet sensor at the same valve. We check both on one visit so the repair is complete.
Could the water scald?
It may run off the setting when the control cannot read the valve outlet. Test the water with care before use and keep the faucet on the cooler side.
