What F81 means
On GE Profile GeoSpring hybrid heat pump water heaters made from June 2025, such as the GEH50DEEJSC, F81 means the leak sensor battery is low. The sensor runs on a battery so it can watch for water even during a power loss. When the battery weakens, the control warns you so the sensor keeps working. Your hot water is not affected by this message.
Common causes of F81
- Leak sensor battery worn out
- Battery installed incorrectly
- Sensor connection loose
1. Find the leak sensor battery, using the owner's manual to see where it sits. 2. Replace it with a fresh battery of the type the manual lists. 3. Install it with the correct polarity and seat the cover. 4. Check the display and confirm F81 is gone. 5. If F81 stays, call us.
- A new battery with F81 still showing points to the sensor.
- We test the sensor and its connection.
- Leak protection should be working, so we do not leave it undone.
Other Water Heater codes
Does F81 affect my hot water?
No. It only warns that the leak sensor battery is low. Your water heating continues normally, but the leak sensor may stop warning you about water, so replace the battery soon.
What battery do I need?
The owner's manual lists the battery type and shows where it sits. Use a fresh battery and install it with the correct polarity so that the sensor starts reporting again.
F81 stays after a new battery. Why?
The sensor itself or its connection may need checking. We test the sensor and give you a written price before any repair, and our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Still unsure about F81?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
