What 1 means

On the current-generation GE Zoneline AZ95 single-package vertical units (AZ95E and AZ95H, such as the AZ95H12EAC), code 1 means the inside fan motor is not turning at the speed the control commands. After 90 seconds of drive without the right speed, the control logs the error and keeps it for 10 minutes. While it is active the unit gives no heating, fan, heat pump or cooling. This differs from code 1 on the older AZ90 and AZ91 units.

Common causes of 1

  • Inside fan motor not reaching commanded speed
  • Fan wheel or airflow path obstructed
  • Motor wiring or drive signal to the motor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. To view the stored errors, press and hold MODE, then press AUX. The display steps through current entries, and -- means none. 2. Pressing AUX wipes the list; any other key closes it and keeps the entries for later. 3. Check that the front grille and the room air path are not blocked by furniture, curtains or bedding. 4. Wait about 10 minutes and try the unit again. 5. Do not open the unit; report a repeat to your property manager.

! Why to stop there
  • A motor that cannot spin up and a control that is misreading the speed signal look the same from the display.
  • We test the fan drive and check the wheel turns freely in the wall sleeve installation.
  • Repairs are priced in writing first and carry our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
11 questions
Why does the unit do nothing at all with code 1?

With the inside fan unable to move air, the control holds off heating and cooling together. That protects the unit, so everything waits until the fan is proven to run.

Does the error clear itself?

The control lets it expire after 10 minutes, but if the fan still cannot reach speed the error returns. Repeated returns point to a real fan problem.

Is this the same as code 1 on an older Zoneline?

No. The AZ90 and AZ91 generation uses code 1 for a stuck front panel button. The AZ95 code 1 is about the inside fan, so check your model label first.
