What 7 means
On the older GE Zoneline AZ90 and AZ91 single-package vertical units, such as the AZ91H09D2C, code 7 means the indoor coil stayed below 30°F for 2 consecutive minutes. The control turns the compressor off and runs the high fan until the coil reaches 45°F. The room stops cooling during that time. Newer AZ95 units use code 7 for a reverse valve error instead.
Common causes of 7
- Restricted airflow over the indoor coil
- Dirty filter or blocked front grille
- Inside fan not delivering enough air, or a cooling circuit condition
1. Read the memory with ENTER, then walk through it using SCROLL. 2. Let the unit run its high fan so the coil can thaw. 3. Clear the front grille of curtains, bedding or furniture. 4. Clean the air filter if it can be reached without tools. 5. Restart cooling afterward, and hold ENTER and SCROLL for 3 to 6 seconds to clear history after service.
- Low airflow is typical, but a cooling circuit condition can cause icing too.
- We check airflow, then coil temperature and fan operation.
- Repairs are quoted in writing first and backed by a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Why does the fan keep running?
The high fan moves room air over the cold coil to melt any ice, until the coil warms to 45°F. Melting usually takes a short while.
How long will the room be without cooling?
Until the coil recovers, which depends on how much ice formed. Letting the fan run helps. Longer if the filter is dirty or the grille is blocked.
Is code 7 the same on AZ95?
No. On the AZ95 line code 7 is a reverse valve error, so read the generation on the model label. The model label tells you which generation applies.
