What 10 means
On GE Zoneline AZ90 and AZ91 single-package vertical units, including the AZ90E09D2C, code 10 means room freeze protection is working. The unit runs the high fan and electric heat until the room reaches 46°F, and the display shows FRZ during operation. It protects pipes and finishes in an unheated room. The newer AZ95 generation uses code 10 for a heat pump overload.
Common causes of 10
- Room temperature dropped low enough to trigger protection
- Unit left on in an unheated, vacant room
- Room temperature sensor reading cold
1. Hit ENTER to see the stored codes, and SCROLL to look at each in turn. 2. Expect the unit to run on its own until the room reaches 46°F. 3. Leave the unit powered so the protection can work. 4. Close windows and doors to keep the cold out. 5. Hold ENTER and SCROLL for 3 to 6 seconds to clear history if you wish.
- If the room is not actually cold, the room sensor may be misreading.
- We compare the sensor value with the real room temperature.
- Any work comes with a written price first and a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Is FRZ on the display a failure?
No. It tells you freeze protection is active. The unit is keeping the room from getting too cold. The room is being kept safe from freezing.
Why does it use electric heat?
The unit needs fast, dependable heat in cold conditions, so it uses the fan and electric heat until the room is safe. That keeps pipes and finishes safe.
Does AZ95 code 10 mean the same?
No. The AZ95 code 10 is a heat pump overload, so check the generation on your model label. The two codes share only a number.
Still unsure about 10?
