What 15 means
On GE Zoneline single-package vertical units of the AZ90/AZ91 generation, code 15 is a heat pump error. The control found the indoor coil colder than the surrounding air for 3 minutes, which a working heat pump should not show while heating. The unit then falls back on its electric heat, so the room still warms but at a higher running cost. The display shows 15 on the left and the history count on the right.
Common causes of 15
- Reversing circuit not switching the unit into heating
- Indoor coil temperature sensor reading wrong
- Low airflow across the indoor coil
- Refrigerant circuit not producing heat
1. Press ENTER to show the stored codes, then SCROLL to step through them and write down each pair of digits. 2. Look at the room-side grille and filter; weak airflow makes a cold coil more likely. 3. Keep furniture and curtains away from the discharge. 4. Hold ENTER and SCROLL for 3 to 6 seconds only if you want the history cleared once you have noted it.
- Whether the heat pump side or only a sensor reading is wrong stays unknown until we compare actual coil temperatures
- We test the reversing circuit and the coil sensor, and give you a written price before any repair
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Does the room still get heat with code 15 on an AZ91?
Yes. Once the heat pump error is logged the unit switches to electric heat, so the room warms. The catch is that electric elements cost more to run than a healthy heat pump would.
What do the two pairs of digits mean?
The left pair is the error code, 15 here, and the right pair counts how many times it has been recorded. Pressing SCROLL moves from one stored entry to the next so you can read them all.
Can I clear code 15 myself?
You can hold ENTER and SCROLL together for 3 to 6 seconds to clear the list. If the heat pump side is still running cold, the code simply logs again after a few minutes of heating.
