What FL means

On GE Profile ClearView window and saddle air conditioners in the AHTT and PHNT series, FL shows on the display and the unit shuts off because the internal tray is full. The tray collects moisture pulled from the air, and when it fills the unit stops to avoid overflow. Models include the AHTT08BC and the PHNT10CC. The letters are printed in a small-caps style, so FL can look like two other characters at first glance.

Common causes of FL

  • Tray full from heavy humidity
  • Drain path blocked
  • Pump not emptying the tray
  • Unit not level
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Drain the indoor side following the Draining the Unit steps in the Care and Cleaning section. 2. If FL still shows, hold SLEEP (AHTT) or DISPLAY (PHNT) for 3 seconds to clear it. 3. Check that the unit sits level. 4. If FL returns, the pump needs service.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether heavy humidity or a pump problem fills the tray stays unknown until we watch it empty
  • We check the pump and the drain path; if draining solves it, no repair is needed
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
FLFL questions
What does FL mean on a GE Profile ClearView AC?

The internal tray is full and the unit has shut itself off. Draining the indoor side following the Draining the Unit steps lets it run again, and holding SLEEP or DISPLAY clears a message that lingers.

Can FL appear along with P1?

They are separate messages. FL is a full tray, P1 is a pump problem. A pump that stops working can let the tray fill, so you may see both in sequence.

Why does FL keep coming back?

If it returns soon after draining, the pump is probably not emptying the tray as it should. That is when we test the pump and the drain path instead of just draining again.
