A GE range hood pulls cooking air through a filter, a blower and, on most homes, a duct to the outdoors. Recirculating models run the air through a charcoal filter and send it back. Controls may be simple switches or touch panels, and lights are LED or halogen modules.

Why is my hood fan running but not pulling smoke?
Greasy filters, a blocked or kinked duct, a closed damper or a weak motor could be involved. We check the filters and duct first, because those are the most common and the easiest to correct.
Do I need to replace the filter or just clean it?
Metal mesh filters are usually washable, while charcoal filters on recirculating hoods are replaced. If you are not sure which type you have, tell us the model and we confirm.
Can you repair a hood that vents outside?
