What tC means

On GE refrigerators with electronic dispenser controls, including Profile and Café models that have the feature, tC on the display means TurboCool is active. This is not an error. TurboCool runs the fresh food section extra cold for a set period, about 8 hours, to chill warm groceries fast, and then returns to normal. The refrigerator is working exactly as intended while tC shows.

Common causes of tC

  • TurboCool selected on purpose after loading groceries
  • TurboCool pad pressed by accident
  • Setting still running its 8-hour period
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Do nothing if you just loaded groceries. 2. Let TurboCool finish on its own over about 8 hours. 3. If you want it off earlier, use the TurboCool pad on your control. 4. Keep the doors closed so the extra chill is not wasted. 5. If tC does not end, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If tC never ends, the timer or the pad may be stuck.
  • We check the control response before looking at cooling.
  • Extra cold air can freeze lettuce and milk, so we remind you to watch delicate foods.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
tCtC questions
Is tC a problem with my refrigerator?

No. It means TurboCool is running to chill the fresh food section quickly. It is a feature you or someone else switched on, and it ends on its own after about 8 hours, returning the refrigerator to its usual temperature.

Can I turn TurboCool off early?

Yes. Press the TurboCool pad again on your control. If the pad does not respond, it may be failing and we can test it. Otherwise, simply let the cycle finish by itself.

Why are my vegetables freezing near the back?

TurboCool makes the fresh food section colder than normal for several hours. Delicate items near the vents can freeze. Let the cycle finish, then move lettuce and similar foods away from the vents if it keeps happening.
