What H2O means
On GE electronic dishwashers that display C-codes, such as the GSD2340VSA, H2O means low water. The control counted the fill and did not see enough water in the tub. The next step depends on the cycle: on the 1-Hour Wash, the instruction is to schedule service, while on AutoSense, Heavy, Normal or Light cycles the inlet hose should be checked for a kink first. You will see the code on the display and the cycle stopped with little water inside.
Common causes of H2O
- Inlet hose kinked or squeezed
- Water supply valve partly closed
- Inlet valve slow to open or partly blocked
- Water level sensing misreading the tub
1. Check that the water inlet hose is not kinked behind or under the dishwasher. 2. Make sure the hot water valve is fully open. 3. On AutoSense, Heavy, Normal or Light, start the cycle again. 4. If H2O appears on the 1-Hour Wash, or returns on any cycle, stop and schedule a visit.
- A straight hose and open valve do not confirm the fill valve works.
- We test the inlet valve and the sensing that reads the water level.
- A written price comes before we begin.

What does H2O mean on a GE dishwasher?
The dishwasher did not take in enough water. The cycle you were running decides the first step, so check the hose on most cycles and call us on the 1-Hour Wash.
Why is H2O handled differently on the 1-Hour Wash?
On that cycle the instruction is to schedule service rather than check the hose. On AutoSense, Heavy, Normal and Light, a kinked inlet hose is worth checking first.
Is H2O the same as H20?
They look the same on the panel and appear to be one message. The cause is the same too: not enough water coming in during the fill.
Still seeing H2O?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
