What F73 means
On GE Profile GeoSpring hybrid heat pump water heaters made from June 2025, such as the GEH50DEEJSC, F73 means the condensate drain pan port is clogged. The heat pump pulls moisture out of the air, and that water has to drain away through a pan and port. When the port clogs, the water has nowhere to go. You may see the code, a damp area near the unit or a heater that stops using the heat pump.
Common causes of F73
- Debris or buildup in the condensate port
- Kinked or blocked condensate drain line
- Algae or sediment in the pan
1. Clear the obstruction in the condensate port following your owner's manual. 2. Check the drain line for kinks. 3. Dry any water around the base with towels. 4. Let the unit run and watch the display. 5. If F73 returns, call us.
- After clearing the port, a blockage further along the drain line may remain.
- We check the pan, the port and the line for flow.
- Water pooling near the heater can cause damage, so we check for leaks too.
Other Water Heater codes
What is the condensate drain pan?
It collects the water that the heat pump pulls out of the air and sends it away through a port and a drain line. When the port clogs, that water has nowhere to go and the unit reports F73.
How do I clear the port?
Follow the steps in the owner's manual. Be gentle, and do not force tools into the port. Check the drain line for kinks while you are there, and dry any water around the base.
Water is on the floor. What should I do?
Dry it up and check the drain line for kinks. If water keeps appearing, call us and we will find the source. Standing water near the unit can cause damage, so please do not ignore it.
