What Filter Status LED red means
On GE and GE Profile refrigerators with the XWFE RFID water filter and a Filter Status LED (side-by-side GSS25, GSE25 and PSE25, and bottom-freezer and French-door GNE, GBE and GFE, 2018 and newer), a red Filter Status LED means the filter has expired, or on bottom-freezer models that it is reaching the expired state. A steady red is a replacement reminder. A flashing red is a different message, covered separately.
Common causes of Filter Status LED red

Why is my Filter Status LED red?
The filter has expired, or on bottom-freezer models it is reaching expiry. Press Filter Status to see the remaining life. Use the pad to confirm the percentage.
How will I know the new filter is accepted?
After a new filter is detected, the LED flashes 3 times and then stays off. Most owners see the LED go off once the new filter is read.
It stays red after replacing. Why?
The filter may not be fully seated, or the reader is not detecting it. Reseat it, and if red remains, call us. Reseating takes seconds.
