What Green light off means

On GE chest freezers with Freezer Status Lights, such as the FCM16 and FCM22, the green light shows that the freezer is running. If it is not glowing, one of several things is going on: a power interruption, an unplugged cord, an open breaker, a blown fuse, or a burned-out indicator light. A dark green light with a cold chest may only be the lamp, but you should confirm the chest is running.

Common causes of Green light off

  • Power interruption
  • Cord unplugged or loose
  • Breaker open or fuse blown
  • Indicator light burned out
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check the cord is fully plugged in. 2. Check the breaker and any fuse feeding the outlet. 3. Test the outlet with a lamp. 4. Put your hand near the chest to see if it feels cold and the motor is running. 5. If the chest is running, only the light is out and service is needed for a replacement.

! Why to stop there
  • Power is the first thing to rule out; if power is fine, the light is the likely cause.
  • If the chest is warm and silent, we test power at the freezer and the cooling system.
  • Replacing a burned-out indicator is small work, and we quote it in writing first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Green light offGreen light off questions
Why is the green light off on my chest freezer?

Power may be out, the cord may be loose, the breaker may be open or a fuse blown. The indicator light itself may also be burned out.

How can I tell which it is?

Check the cord, breaker and outlet first. If the chest is cold and running, the light is probably the issue. If it is warm and silent, power is the problem.

Can I just replace the light?

The manual says to contact service for a replacement. We handle it and quote in writing first. Do not assume the chest is empty of risk; check the temperature and contents too.
