What Filter light pulsing / blinking means

On the GE Profile Opal 2.0 and 2.0 Ultra nugget ice makers (XPIO13, XPIO23 and XPIO43), a pulsing or blinking Filter light means the water filter is expired or awaiting initial setup. The ice maker still works, but the filter is past its useful life or the tracker has not been started. It is a maintenance prompt, not a breakdown.

Common causes of Filter light pulsing / blinking

  • Filter past its service life
  • Filter tracker not yet set up
  • Tracker not reset after a filter change
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Replace the filter. 2. Hold the Filter button to reset the tracker. 3. Check that the light stops pulsing. 4. Check for drips around the filter. Run a little water through the new filter as directed. Check that the light has stopped.

! Why to stop there
  • If the light keeps pulsing after a new filter and a reset, the tracker or the filter seat needs a check.
  • Slow ice after a filter change suggests the filter is not seated.
  • We quote in writing before any repair.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Filter light pulsing / blinkingFilter light pulsing / blinking questions
Why is my Opal Filter light pulsing?

The filter is expired or the tracker has not been set up. Replace the filter and reset the tracker. The unit tracks the filter, so it needs to be told when a new one is in.

How do I reset the tracker?

After you install the new filter, hold the Filter button. That tells the unit a fresh filter is in place. Hold it until the tracker resets.

Does it affect ice?

An expired filter can affect taste and water flow. Replace it on time for the best ice. Filter changes also help keep the ice tasting clean.
