Opal Ice Maker Repair in Houston

We repair GE Profile Opal nugget ice makers that have stopped making ice, leak, taste off or show a warning on the display. We check the water path, the scale and the controls before we say what is wrong.

The GE Profile Opal is a countertop nugget ice maker, which makes it different from a refrigerator ice maker. It pulls water from a reservoir, freezes it onto a cold cylinder, shaves it off with a rotating auger and pushes nuggets into the bin. That chain has a pump, a sensor set, a compressor and a motor in a small cabinet.

Hard water is the usual challenge in Houston kitchens. Scale coats the freezing surface and the sensors, and it can mimic a failed part. Heat from a nearby range or a counter in a sunny corner also affects performance.

When we visit, we look at the water source, the state of the reservoir and lines, the cleaning history, and how the unit cycles. We tell you plainly if a descale, a part or a replacement is what the unit needs.

05Opal Ice Maker questions
How often should an Opal be cleaned?

Follow the cleaning cycle in your manual and the light the unit shows. Hard water leaves scale quicker, so Houston owners often need to descale more often than they expect. A buildup can slow ice and cause errors.

Why does my Opal make water but no ice?

The unit may be too scaled to chill the water, the auger may be struggling, or a sensor may be misreading. The sign alone does not say which, so we check cleanliness and cycle behavior first.

Is it okay to use filtered water?

Many owners prefer it. Water quality affects scale, but a sensor can also be affected by water with certain minerals. Tell us what you use, and we take it into account when we diagnose.
