What LOCK DOOR / DOOR LOCKING means
On GE, GE Profile and Café electric, gas and induction ranges with self-clean (2012 and newer, electronic controls), LOCK DOOR, DOOR LOCKING, DOOR LOCK or LOCKED flashes in the display when the self-clean cycle has been selected but the oven door is not closed. The wording varies by model. Models include the JB735SPSS, JB645RKSS, JGB735SPSS, PGS930SELSS and PHS930SLSS. It is not the control lockout, which is a different message.
Common causes of LOCK DOOR / DOOR LOCKING
- Oven door not fully closed
- Manual latch not set on latch models
- Door lock motor or latch not engaging
- Door switch not registering closed
1. Close the oven door fully. 2. On manual-latch models, slide the latch over. 3. Check that nothing is blocking the door gasket. 4. Start self-clean again. 5. On a gas range, if you smell gas at any point, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
- If the door is closed and the message continues, whether the lock motor or the door switch is to blame stays unknown
- We test the latch and the switch, then give you the repair price in writing

Why does my oven flash LOCK DOOR when I start self-clean?
The cycle is selected but the door is not closed. Close it fully, and set the latch on manual-latch models, then start the cycle again. The flashing stops once the door registers closed.
Is this the same as the control lock message?
No. The control lockout locks the pads on the panel, while LOCK DOOR is about the oven door and the self-clean cycle. Closing the door is the only thing that clears it.
What if the door is shut and it still flashes?
Then the lock or the door switch may not be registering the closed door. We check both and give a written price before any repair.
Still unsure about LOCK DOOR / DOOR LOCKING?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
