What DOOR LOCKED means
On GE, GE Profile and Café ranges with self-clean (2012 and newer), such as the JB735SPSS, PHS930SLSS, PB960SJSS and CES700P3MD1, DOOR LOCK or DOOR LOCKED stays on when you want to cook. The oven door is locked because the temperature inside has not dropped below the locking temperature, usually after a self-clean cycle. The door stays locked as a safety measure until the oven cools. It is not a failure.
Common causes of DOOR LOCKED
- Oven still above the locking temperature after cleaning
- Cycle canceled partway through
- Door lock not releasing after cooling
1. Press Cancel/Off. 2. Allow the oven to cool. 3. Do not force the door open. 4. The lock should release by itself once the oven is cool enough. 5. On gas models, a gas smell means you should go outside and phone the gas utility from there.
- If the oven is cool and the door stays locked, whether the lock motor or its switch is to blame stays unknown
- We test the lock and quote any repair in writing

Why is my oven door locked when I want to bake?
The oven has not cooled below the locking temperature, often after a self-clean cycle. Press Cancel/Off and wait for it to cool; the lock then releases on its own.
Can I open the door by force?
No. Forcing it can damage the latch and the lock mechanism. Wait for the oven to cool and the lock to release before you try the handle.
How long does the lock stay on?
It stays on until the oven is cool enough. If the oven is cold to the touch and the lock stays engaged, call us and we will test the lock.
