What Probe means
On GE Profile and Café electric and induction ranges with a probe, including the CES700P3MD1, CES750P4MW2 and CHS900P2MS1, the message Probe is a reminder. You plugged in the probe but have not yet entered a probe temperature, so the oven waits for you to set the target. It is a normal prompt and not a failure. Once the temperature is set and Start is touched, the message goes away and probe cooking begins.
Common causes of Probe
- Probe plugged in with no temperature set
- Probe left plugged in after cooking
- Probe jack contacts dirty
1. Set the probe temperature. 2. Or remove the probe if you do not want probe cooking. 3. Touch Start once the temperature is set. 4. Keep the probe cable away from the oven's heating element and the oven walls.
- If the message stays after a temperature is set, whether the probe or its jack is reading wrong stays unknown
- We test the probe and the jack; a reminder prompt needs no repair
Other Range codes
Why does my range say Probe?
It is a reminder to enter a probe temperature after plugging in the probe. The oven will not proceed with probe cooking until you give it a target temperature.
Do I have to use the probe?
No. Unplug it and take it out of the oven if you want to bake by time, and the message will go away as soon as the probe is disconnected.
Why does it keep saying Probe after I set the temperature?
Check that you touched Start. If the message still shows, we test the probe and its jack, since a poor connection can look like no probe at all.
Still unsure about Probe?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
