What Clean Lint Filter means

On GE dryers with electronic controls, Clean Lint Filter is a reminder, not a problem. On mid-2000s front-load DCVH models such as the DCVH515EFWW, the message appears after Power is pressed if the previous cycle was not finished, and it stays until Start is pressed. On 2016 and newer GTD and PTD dryers such as the GTD65EBSJWS, the light stays on for 15 seconds after the cycle stops. Nothing has failed when you see it.

1. Pull out the lint filter and wipe the lint off the screen. 2. Slide it back in firmly. 3. On a DCVH, press Start to clear the message. 4. Clean the filter before every load, and wash it with mild soap if it looks coated.

No, it is a reminder to clean the filter. On newer GTD and PTD models the light turns off by itself about 15 seconds after the cycle stops, and on older DCVH models pressing Start clears the message.

How clean should the filter be?
