What Tank Low / Empty means
On GE Profile top-load dryers with Fabric Refresh, such as the PTD90EBPTRS (2020 and newer), Tank Low means the Fabric Refresh tank has liquid left for only two more loads. Empty means the tank has run out and must be refilled before you can run another cycle with Fabric Refresh enabled. It is a supply reminder, not a problem with the dryer. You see the tank indicator lit on the control.
Common causes of Tank Low / Empty
- Fabric Refresh liquid used up
- Tank not seated after refilling
1. Open the Fabric Refresh tank. 2. Refill it with an approved liquid, up to the fill mark. 3. Close and seat the tank. 4. Start your next cycle with Fabric Refresh enabled. 5. If the indicator stays lit after a full refill, check that the tank is pushed in all the way.
- If the tank is full and the indicator still says Empty, we check the tank level sensing.
- A cycle that will not accept Fabric Refresh even with liquid in the tank makes us look at the delivery path.
- We give a written price before work begins, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.

What is the difference between Tank Low and Empty?
Tank Low means there is liquid left for only two more loads. Empty means the tank has run out, and you must refill it before the next cycle with Fabric Refresh enabled.
Can I dry clothes while the tank is empty?
Yes, you can run cycles without Fabric Refresh turned on. To use that feature again, refill the tank first with an approved liquid, then enable it for the cycle.
Does this mean the dryer needs service?
No. It is a refill reminder. Only if the indicator stays on after a full, seated refill do we look at the level sensing and the tank connection.
